Designed to serve the mixed-use development of New Carrollton Station, the New Carrollton Station Parking Structure is a 272,317-SF garage providing 971 parking spaces to retail patrons and the adjacent residential community. The Shockey Precast Group served as a design-build partner on the project, which was designed to accommodate a two-level vertical expansion and features an asymmetrical design of 2-3 levels and 2-3 bays on opposite ends of the garage. The three-bay side of the garage will also include retail space, while residential construction will abut the two-bay side of the garage. This unusual footprint created its own challenges in terms of precast erection and stability, and special considerations were required to navigate erection of the multiple bays and multiple levels.
The structure’s exterior façade was designed to blend with the surrounding architecture, and included multiple finishes of thin brick and architectural precast façade colors. When completed, the retail side of the parking structure will include multiple finishes that give the appearance of individual stand-alone buildings. Precast erection began on March 11, 2016 and completed on May 4, 2016.
