Jennifer Owens knew nothing about precast concrete when she joined Shockey Precast as a temp almost seven years ago. She needed a job and Shockey Precast offered an opportunity. After three months, Jennifer was still unsure about a career in precast, but she accepted a full-time position working in the plate fab department and the scheduling department. Eventually, she moved fully into the scheduling department, gaining experience and knowledge about production processes and scheduling of materials. “When my supervisor retired several years ago, I was offered the opportunity to head the scheduling department. During this transition, I was also placed in charge of production scheduling for the Richmond plant as well. Through my career with Shockey Precast, I went from knowing nothing about precast to earning the opportunity to become the first woman to head the scheduling department and schedule production for not one, but two manufacturing facilities.”
